These are beautiful long feathered legged giants of the poultry world, not a great egg layer but magnificient to have around the garden, the hens make wonderful broody`s.
I usually average about 200 eggs a year from my birds.
My favourite Cockerel which is well known to visitors is Gilbert my Gold Brahma Cockerel. These birds will need low perches in the hen house, high perches can cause them to have foot problems because they are heavy when they land and can have bumble foot because of this.
All Brahmas are slow maturing birds so they don`t lay until they are fully mature at roughly 10months old, this depends on the time of year they are hatched. Birds which are fed layers feed too early will not have the correct body shape, these birds should have growers feed until the hens start to lay.
